MATCH REPORT
A superb victory for the Town after coming from 1 nil behind (again) to retain their place at the top and are in the driving seat for the title.
1' The Ammies kick off following a minute's applause for former blue Ross Aikenhead after his passing yesterday.
The game started slow with both teams getting to know each other and Ammies starting to gain some momentum.
The first chance fell for the Ammies after six noisy minutes from the main stand. A quick snatch from Ammies number 8 led to a double save from Greg Hall to stop the Ammies taking an early lead. This was the beginning of a superb individual performance from the Town keeper.
Three minutes later, another shot on target was comfortably caught in the keepers midriff. Before the Ammies goal, there was minimal action towards Kyle Haslam's area and Town struggled to keep possession when controlling the ball. Sam Sheridan had several crosses caught from the Ammies keeper and a few disappointing decisions from Town collectively.
23' GOAL! From a set piece adjacent to the home ultras, Bryan Ly whipped in a mouth-watering delivery met perfectly from Darrhyl Mason who smashed it in the net towards the Chicken Hut.
Ammies wanted to control the game and already began time-wasting techniques which were met with disapproval from the Billy Moore stand. Several Ammies players were down in quick succession stopping Ammies physio from getting comfortable on the bench.
45' SIX additional minutes were to be played. In which time, goalkeepeer Haslam was forced down with an injury without being under any pressure and things went bad to worse for the man between the sticks.
HT' After a rather disappointing half for Town, Ammies enter the changing rooms a goal to the good in the El Civico.
46' Kick off for the blues is met with uproar from the Wythy Faithful. Immediately, a counter attack begins and you can see that the Royal blues want the victory more, beginning a half of complete dominance. Haslam is forced into an early save which worsens his injury and means he can not kick the ball for the forthcoming 54 minutes. This means he throws the ball every time he has the ball and gets a fellow defender to take goal kicks.
57' A relentless Town keep Ammies under pressure and you can feel a goal coming any time soon. James Simms is substituted off for K. Metz.
61' OFF THE LINE! Somehow, Greg Hall prevents the ball from crossing the line and stops Ammies from doubling their lead.
65' SUBSTITUTION Luke Nock off for C. Uche.
67' GOOOOAAAALLLLL! From a corner, Sam drifts it in at the far post where it is cut back across and an unstoppable strike from Manu means the equaliser is finally scored!
78' Still putting on the pressure, Ammies have a rare chance where giant Henderson heads wide of the post and couldn't put the visitors in front and capitalise on a clear goal scoring opportunity.
82' Danny Byrnes comes on for Will Riding.
84' Dickov replaces Henderson for the Ammies
86' WINNING GOALLLLLLL! TOWN HAVE SCORED THANKS TO PLAYER OF THE MONTH TOM BENTHAM. The Ammies fans go (slightly) quieter and The Billy Moore stand erupts in relief and celebration. Who knew there was 14 minutes still to go?
87' Greg Hall says it's our turn to burn the clock as he receives treatment for an aerial challenge from Mason.
90+2' Davies makes way for Parkinson and whistling begins aimed at the referee's whistle.
90+5' From what we all thought would be the last chance, an Ammies corner is ricocheted to Paul Riley who fires it over towards Aldi. Get to the middle aisle early tomorrow and you might find it.
90+9' Ammies no.8 gets in the book as well as Isaac Abankwah who will receive a match ban after reaching ten yellow cards.
90+11' FULL TIME. All the Juniors run onto the pitch infront of a record attendance and the Royal blues reign over Civic and reign over the NWCFL
It's a happy Easter for Wythenshawe Town as they remain holders of the El Civico title and with just 3 Cup finals to go, uncontrollably look forward to a new chapter of non-league football.
From everyone at Wythenshawe Town, we would like to thank Solar In Sport for sponsoring the game and congratulate Brocton and FC St Helens for their respective achievements in winning their divisions of the NWCFL.
OFFICIAL ATTENDANCE: 1400 (316 OVER THE ERICSTAN PARK RECORD)
